BOEALPS 2021 Executive Board Election
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2021 Board election has been temporarily paused. The Board requested a waiver from Boeing Recreation to postpone the election, in order to allow the circumstances to be resolved. The waiver was granted, which stipulates that the election be held and the new board be announced to the membership no later than February 9th, 2021.
BOEALPS Operations Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
At this time, BOEALPS is not hosting or sponsoring any in person classes or activities. We review the COVID situation at each board meeting, and also when significant changes in protocols from government or Boeing Recreation are released. Stay safe and healthy !

2020 ACC Cancelled
IMPORTANT UPDATE for Mountain Hardwear in-store event !
Following guidance from Washington State Department of Health regarding public gatherings, Mountain Hardwear has communicated that they are postponing the planned in-store event on Sunday March 8th, 5pm-8pm. The event is to be rescheduled to a later date, and this will be shared when available.
However, the Mountain Hardwear / Columbia Sportswear downtown store will be open as usual, and they will honor the offered discount throughout the weekend (March 6th to 8th), so you can still drop in any time and take advantage of 30% off of your entire purchase from both stores*.

Basic Mountaineering Class – 2020 class starting soon!
The BOEALPS Basic Mountaineering Class (BMC) is a great opportunity to learn the skills that are necessary for basic competence in alpine travel. This course covers at an introductory level everything from proper clothing and route finding to crevasse rescue and glacier travel. If you are new to the outdoors or have outdoor experience but lack the training to go with it, then this course is a must for you!

BOEALPS 2020 BOARD ELECTIONS !
BOEALPS is hosting an Election Night social event at Black Raven Brewing in Redmond on TUESDAY OCTOBER 8th, 7pm-9pm !
The club will be providing food at Black Raven. All you have to do is show up, socialize, eat, and vote! The event is open to members and non-member club guests (those of you who are non-Boeing, but participate in our courses and activities), although only members may vote. Computers will be available on site for you to cast your vote in the 2020 Board Election.
Also, since the location is so close to the Vertical World indoor climbing gym in Redmond, many of us will be heading there before the social to pull on some plastic! This part is totally informal, so just show up and look for people you know.

Spring is here and it’s time for our annual Spring Campout !
This year because of the lingering snow pack keeping our usual camps inoperable, we have booked the Wenatchee Confluence State Park group camp for Friday night and Saturday night. We will be having a potluck Saturday night, with BOEALPS providing the main dish (with vegetarian option). You can bring a side or dessert to go along (or any dish to share. We also ask for each car to bring a wood bundle for the campfire, if you can.

The BOEALPS Alpine Climbing Class (ACC) applications are OPEN NOW! Please apply if you want to learn how to competently explore the more rugged, remote, vertical, and amazing alpine environments of the Cascades and beyond.
The ACC is an intensive hands‐on class where you will learn the skills required and gain the experience necessary to tackle intermediate‐level alpine climbs. Skills you will learn include:
- Leading traditional multi‐pitch rock climbs
- Steep snow and ice climbing
- Rescue techniques
- Alpine climb planning
ACC outings are two days long and roughly every other weekend from mid-March to mid-August, with classroom sessions the Monday prior to each outing.

2019 BOEALPS Baker Backcountry Ski Cabin Weekend
Hello Climbers and Skiers,
The Baker backountry ski cabin is open for reservations! Come join two dozen of your friends to enjoy the snow around the Mt Baker ski area and hang out in a giant lodge. Last year we did sell out so don’t wait too long to sign up. We also officially have a van dweller special this year (see below). We call it a backcountry ski weekend but anyone can come no matter what your winter activity of choice is. There are plenty of touring and snowshoeing options from beginner to advanced and the ski area is an option for anyone without AT gear. If you need help finding partners to ski with let me know and I’ll try to coordinate. When: Jan 25 – Jan 27 2019 Where: Glacier, WA Cost: Members $100, Non-Members $105 Other important info: Please be aware that the lodge only has queen beds and priority goes to anyone that doubles up. Be prepared to spend a night on a couch or floor if you don’t share a bed. Breakfast and dinner on Saturday will be provided. Anything leftover will be Sunday breakfast. This is a great opportunity to take an AAIRE level 1 avalanche course offered by the American Alpine Institute out of Bellingham. There is no Boealps discount or organization for this class. 2018 Alpine Ice Seminar
Are you interested in learning what ice climbing is all about. The BOEALPS is having their annual alpine ice seminar on September 15th and 16th. This is a great opportunity to learn steep snow technique, ice climbing technique and some snow and ice anchors. Applicants should be Basic Climbing Class graduates or equivalent. The only personal gear required is a helmet, harness, mountaineering boots, and crampons the rest will be provided.
As always we hope to do a Waterfall Ice Seminar in winter when weather permits but if you want to get on ICE apply early because this is your sure bet.

The 2018 BRC applications are now live for Students and Instructors! For more information and to apply, check out the BOEALPS BRC webpage (www.boealps.org/courses/brc).
The BOEALPS Basic Rock Class (BRC) is designed to bridge the gap between the Basic and Alpine Climbing Classes. It introduces students to principles of technical rock and basic alpine climbing, allows them to establish mentorship relationships with more experienced climbers.
Class outings are approximately every other weekend from July to August, with classroom sessions the week prior to the weekend outing. Students are expected to attend all lectures and outings and be in good physical condition.

2018 Backcountry Ski Seminar
The BOEALPS Backcountry Ski Seminar is back! Snow is falling in the mountains and it’s time to get stoked on skiing. If you’ve been thinking about ditching the resort and searching for untracked pow in the backcountry, this class is for you! This seminar is aimed at giving the new backcountry skier all of the skills and knowledge they need in order to plan and carry out their own ski tours. We will cover different touring equipment (skis, skins, bindings, boots, poles), terrain and route selection, how to set an efficient skin track, backcountry travel techniques, efficient transitions from tour to ski, and more.
The class will meet on two days: one night session during the week to cover concepts and plan a tour, and one day long backcountry tour.
Requirements
- Participants must be comfortable skiing “blue” runs inbounds in variable snow conditions (powder, hardpack, ice, crust)
- Alpine Touring, tele, or splitboard gear (owned or rented)
- Avalanche gear: beacon, shovel, probe (owned or rented)

The Boeing Employee’s Alpine Society Intermediate Climbing Class expands the physical, mental and technical limits of those who wish to challenge themselves by climbing in the alpine setting.
In an intensive, hands‐on environment, you will learn the skills and gain the experience necessary for you to be self-sufficient on intermediate‐level alpine climbs. Skills you will learn include:
- Leading traditional multi‐pitch rock climbs
- Steep Snow and Ice Climbing
- Self‐rescue techniques
- Alpine and expedition climb planning
Class outings are approximately every other weekend from the end of March to the end of August, with classroom sessions the Monday prior to the weekend outing. Please see the ICC calendar for exact dates. Students are expected to be in good physical condition and have gained some climbing experience beyond the basic climbing class.

2017 BOEALPS Fall Camp Out
Hello Climbers!
The fall camp out is coming up on September 29th-30th.
This year we will be having the camp out in the Tieton area. If you haven’t been before now is a great time to get out with your experienced BOEALPS friends and explore a new place to climb. We will be getting campsites at the Windy Point Campground on Friday and staying through Sunday.

Skills you will learn include:
- Following on moderate, technical rock climbing routes (both Sport and Trad)
- Creating anchors and setting top ropes
- Climbing alpine multi-pitch routes
- Becoming more independent trip planners
Class outings are approximately every other weekend from July to August, with classroom sessions the week prior to the weekend outing. Students are expected to be in good physical condition.

If you’ve seen all your friends’ posts online and want to learn how you too can climb frozen waterfalls, the waterfall ice seminar is just for you. This will be a two day course focusing on high angle ice climbing technique and becoming familiar with the process of leading and following an ice route. This class builds on the “Alpine Ice Seminar” but the only prerequisite is the Basic Climbing Class or equivalent skills.
The seminar is being held February 4th thru 5th in Lillooet, B.C.

2017 Backcountry Ski Seminar
The BOEALPS Backcountry Ski Seminar is back!
Snow is falling in the mountains and it’s time to get stoked on skiing. If you’ve been thinking about ditching the resort and searching for untracked pow in the backcountry, this class is for you! This seminar is aimed at giving the new backcountry skier all of the skills and knowledge they need in order to plan and carry out their own ski tours.
The class will meet on two days: one night session on Monday, January 23rd, and one day long backcountry tour on Saturday, January 28th.

2017 Basic Climbing Class
The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class (BCC) is a great opportunity to learn the skills that are necessary for basic competence in alpine travel. This course covers at an introductory level everything from proper clothing and route finding to crevasse rescue and glacier travel. If you are new to the outdoors or have outdoor experience but lack the training to go with it, then this course is a must for you!
Class sessions are held on Wednesday evenings, with one-day weekend outings (either Saturday or Sunday) from Mid Feb through June. Note that two full weekend outings are also scheduled during the class (snow camping and graduation climb).

2017 Baker Backcountry Weekend
2017 Baker Backcountry Ski Weekend is now open for reservations and our snow pack is off to an good start!
We call it a backcountry ski weekend but anyone can come no matter what your winter activity of choice is. There are plenty of touring and snowshoeing options from beginner to advanced and the ski area is an option for anyone without AT gear. If you need help finding partners let me know and I’ll try to coordinate.

Please be aware that the lodge only has queen beds and priority goes to anyone that doubles up. Group food will depend on how many people sign up due to the pricing structure of the lodge. The goal is to provide breakfast and dinner on Saturday.
This is a great opportunity to take the AAIRE Level 1 Avalanche Course offered by the American Alpine Institute. It consists of a classroom session all day Friday in Bellingham then two field days Sat and Sun at the Mt. Baker Ski Area.
