What's New

Updated: December 13, 2007
Projects in the works:
Code Rewrite - BoeAlps 3.0 Release 2. The UI was upgraded to make the site more managable and easier to add new features to the site. Now the code needs to be overhauled to provide the same benefits. Once this is done rapid development can be done on many of the long awaited features of the site.
Alpine Echos - Hundreds of Alpine Echos to make available on the web.
Looking for volunteers to convert to html format.
Calendar Features - A day view to view each days calendar events.
A week view to view each weeks calendar events.
A re-write of the month view to fix numerous design flaws.
A settings page to change display options.
File Manager - Working to complete the file manager that will allow upload, rename, delete of files for the BoeAlps students, instructors and for Board members.

What's New:
3/18/08 - Updated the BRC class pages. Enhanced the Email Us feature to use a friendly name as the from email address display name.
2/3/08 - Updated the Alpine Echo pages. Added 2007 Photo Contest winners.
1/24/08 - Added an Enhanced and Classic view of the Photo Showcase. Started work on Calendars, Echo upload, spam, and support center.
1/23/08 - Added the 2006 Photo Contest photos and added picture frams to the photo main pages. Added a slide show viewer of several photo albums. (More albums to come.)
1/22/08 - Fixed many IE 6.0 issues and cleaned up Class page styles. Worked on making the homepage better. (Still have a way to go on that.)
1/20/08 - Set a style for every link on the site. Fixed unicode character display bug. Styled image borders properly. Made the latest Alpine Echo Available. Numerous other style improvements.
1/19/08 - Re-wrote the EmailUs feature to make it more email like and fixed a few bugs. I also added a feature to handle when email is down.
1/18/08 - Replaced navigation elements on all class pages and made all class pages much more XHTML compliant.
1/16/08 - Updated the ICC pages. Fixed missing contact links on the class pages. Worked on page titles.
1/14/08 - Fixed the UI for Firefox and make IE 6.0 at least readable. I'll fix this soon.
1/13/08 - BoeAlps 3.0 Release 1. A new year and a new UI. This new UI was chosen mainly to get a new toolbar up on the site. The old one held the site back in so many ways. Along with this new UI comes better organization of pages and an area for Advertisements.
7/22/07 - I set the MOFA class info to not display. I also corrected the Steven's Pass Web Cam image.
7/22/07 - Updated the AJAX technology from the beta release to the v1.0 release. I had to manually deploy the AJAX because the host provider did not install AJAX on their web server.
2/27/07 - Updated the Class Folders page to support uploading files. Updated the app_offline.htm page to make it display better.
2/17/07 - Updated the Activities page, Photo Contest page, and the last of the ICC class pages. Also started centralizing page settings like the title, description and key words to a global resource file for easier maintenance.
2/13/07 - Updated the ICC class pages with new info and materials.
2/9/07 - Updated the ICC class pages with new info and materials.
1/12/07 - Updated the BCC class page with new info and materials. Also updated the Gear Locker email links to point to the new Email Us feature.
1/9/07 - Finished the UI of the Email Us page under Contact Us. I just have some error handleing to do and it will be complete. Also added a pdf version of the BRC handbook to replace the word version.
1/6/07 - Updated the content of the class pages.
1/5/07 - Extended the allowable size limit of the Echo Upload to 16MB.
1/4/07 - Further enhanced the Contact Us page to make it easier to update when changes occur. Also extended the email address protection to all email addresses on the site except those printed in Echo Articles.
12/19/06 - Replaced the Contact Us page with a new version that protects personal email addresses. Soon all email addresses on this site will go through this email sending wizard. This will greatly reduce the likely hood that a spam engine will harvest an email address off our site to be used in a spam campaign.
11/25/06 - Replaced photo, rss, and ics pages with optimzed handlers for each of these. Fixed several bugs with the ics feature (now supports more than one calendar), but it still suffers from not knowing the timezone and day light saving time. Also enhanced the security of the overall site by applying trust permissions. And I've gone to a whole new deployment model that precompiles the aspx pages before deployment. This will bring a noticable performance gain, because users will not have to wait for the page to compile on the fly any more.
11/8/06 - Added some bleeding edge AJAX support to the website's homepage. Navigating the Photo Showcase will now only postback a small section of the page instead of rendering the entire page on each request.
11/2/06 - Made some small changes to the home page. Should look a little nicer and perform a little faster now.
10/23/06 - Strongly named all the assemblies for stronger security. Also upgraded the data application blocks to .NET 2.0 which should show a small performance gain on the site as the whole site is running on .NET 2.0 now.
10/19/06 - Added new colors to the website. Along with updating the look of the website there are some repositioning of elements to get ready for new features coming down the pipe.
10/2/06 - Calendar -- Added a year view to make calendar navigation easier.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 Class Pages -- Re-wrote all the class pages to be professional ads for future students. Thanks to Robert Fisher for writing the content for the Seminar pages. I couldn't have done it without his help. While these pages are easy to do and take very little time, it is quite the struggle getting the information from the people to display on these pages. Wish someone on the board was designated to provide updated content for the classes each year. It shouldn't be my job to sell the classes.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 Photo Pages -- Rounded up nearly all the photos that have been submitted to the Photo Contests. This has been a dogged task that has taken years to get these pictures in digital form. Thanks to all who helped dig up these photos. All the photo pages have been updated to display the photos in a nice format. Still needs more features like previous and next photo options. It would be nice if the person running the photo contests each year were able to collect the digitals and give them to us to display on the web.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 Student & Instructor Zones -- Added complete new sections to the BoeAlps site. Going into creating these pages I was unsure what the software requirements should be. As the classes began, I quickly learned many lessons of how the internet can improve the class processes. I'm sure dealing with this incomplete site was very frustrating for all involved, but the lessons that were learned could not have been learned any other way. The next version of this section of the site will not be just better software, it will be better software for the purposes of improving the class process.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 Site Upgrade -- Re-wrote nearly every page on the site to bring the website up to coding standards. Upgraded the site to .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. While this upgrade was mostly unnoticeable to the general user of the site; the site is much more accessible to Firefox users and users with disabilities. All future changes to the site will keep accessibility concerns in mind.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 RSS & ICal support -- Added RSS & ICal to the calendar events to give users alternative ways to stay up to date with the club events.
11/1/05 - 4/1/06 User Profiles -- Added a way for users to create a personal profile about themselves. This was made for the climbing classes but works for all registered users. Future improvements will allow registered users to find other users and contact them.
12/18/04 - Posted the rest of the 2002 Alpine Echos.
12/15/04 - Set the Show Case photos on the welcome page to cycle from newest to oldest. (The random idea turned out to be really lame.)
12/14/04 - Started randomly rotating photos on the welcome page. The random part will get better in future releases.
12/06/04 - Added a Site Map.
12/05/04 - Added fully automated password reset for people who forget their passwords.
11/28/04 - Added personalization and sign out option to homepage.
11/27/04 - Added Auto Sign In option to the Sign In page.

11/19/04 - Integrated Google search engine.
11/04/04 - BoeAlps 2.0 launched.
